WATER AREA

Allendale Dam

Allendale dam is a picturesque dam nestled in the surrounding grassland at an altitude of 1690m above sea level. There are beautiful views of the surrounding hills and mountains. The visible, prominent ones are Kamberg to the Northeast, Gladstones Nose to the Northwest and Kwa-Ntabamnyama to the Southeast. It is a very quiet place as you are out of site of the main roads and there is no intensive agriculture nearby as it is on a beef farm. Antelope species are fairly common but shy due to the open terrain. The dam is fairly small at 1.72 hectares. The water should remain fairly clean even during the summer as it has a grass land catchment. The shallows have good weed banks with some bare and rocky sections making bank fishing attractive. The middle of the dam has some depth to it to keep the trout cool in the hotter parts of the year.
