To reach this point:

  • From the N3, take the Midmar/Howick North fly-off. Proceed to the T junction at “the everything shop”. Turn right, and proceed along the R103 to the Dargle/Impendle turnoff. Travel 17 Kms along this Dargle road (P134) to the point where the tar ends, and continue on for 5.9 Kms until you reach the Everglades turnoff on your left.
  • Take that turnoff and travel 715m, where you will see a gate on your left hand side with an NFFC sign on it.

Markers to look out for:

  • Having reached the gate, travel on the track through the grass towards the dam’s spillway, which is visible from the gate. As you near the spillway, veer right, up the embankment to come to the small stand of Blackwood trees , which is where you must park. This spot is a mere 150 metres from the gate.

If on a float tube, be careful to monitor your position. If you reach the island, you have definitely paddled over the line.

WATER AREA

Mavela

Mavela has long been the club’s flagship stillwater venue, and has produced excellent fishing over the years. Note however, that the farmhouse overlooks the dam, and it is therefore critical that members abide by all rules, and do nothing that would inconvenience the owner or bring the club into disrepute. Most important is to look out for the markers attached to the fences on either side of the dam. These markers and the imaginary line between them, are not to be crossed under any circumstances, in order to maintain the owner’s home privacy. The dam is at an altitude of 1500metres above sea level, and is 8 hectares in extent, and falls within the Umgeni catchment area
